Mykonos Island Tour: Ano Mera, Armenistis Lighthouse and Beaches
Updated October 11, 2026 · 5 min read
An island tour is worthwhile if your visit would otherwise stop at Chora and one southern beach. The useful version links the inhabited interior, a coastal viewpoint and at least one beach area; the weak version is a sequence of rushed photo stops whose names matter more than the experience.
Ano Mera is the essential contrast
Ano Mera lies near the centre of Mykonos, about eight kilometres from Chora according to the municipality. Its square, tavernas and Panagia Tourliani monastery show a settled village rather than another waterfront entertainment district. Treat the monastery as an active religious place: check opening access locally, dress respectfully and do not promise entry as part of every tour.
The village can be reached by public bus, so it does not alone justify a guided circuit. The value comes from linking it efficiently with less convenient coastal stops.
What Armenistis adds
Armenistis Lighthouse stands on the north-western side of the island above the sea lanes towards Tinos. It is primarily a landscape and viewpoint stop. Do not build the day around guaranteed interior access; tours commonly use the exterior setting and view.
Wind exposure matters. A clear sky can still mean a strong northerly wind, so a short stop may feel more sensible than a long picnic. The lighthouse also sits away from the compact walking route of Chora, which is why it works better in a vehicle loop.
Choose the beach stop by conditions
An island circuit may call at a famous southern beach or a quieter shore, but the route should not be treated as fixed unless the operator confirms it. Wind, traffic and pickup logistics can change the order. A viewpoint is not the same as beach time; if swimming matters, verify duration and changing facilities before booking.
The four-hour Farm, Ano Mera and beaches guided tour starts at €50 and has the most reviews of the island circuits in the current Mykonos selection. It suits first-time visitors without a car. It is less suitable if you want several hours at one beach or a private, adjustable route.
Compare it with other Mykonos island tours and keep a separate morning for walking Mykonos Town. Trying to fit Chora’s lanes, Delos and an island loop into one day sacrifices the very contrast the circuit is meant to provide.
Guided, private or self-drive?
Choose a shared guided tour for simplicity and context, a private tour for adjustable stops, or self-drive when beaches are the priority. For self-drive, confirm parking expectations, fuel policy, deposit, CDW or full protection and excess rather than choosing by headline price alone.
The best island circuit is not the one with the longest stop list. It is the one that gives Ano Mera enough time to feel different from Chora, uses the lighthouse as a landscape stop and leaves one coast unhurried.
