Mykonos Old Port or New Port: Where Does Your Tour Start?
Updated October 11, 2026 · 6 min read
Mykonos has two ports that serve different journeys. The Old Port sits beside Chora and is used by many excursion boats, including the regular Delos crossing. The New Port at Tourlos handles large passenger ferries and many cruise operations. A confirmation that says only “Mykonos port” is incomplete information, not permission to choose either one.
Old Port: town and excursion departures
The Old Port is the waterfront of Mykonos Town itself. It is walkable from the lanes of Chora and is the usual reference point for Delos boats. Several sailing and coastal trips also meet nearby, although individual operators may use another jetty or arrange a transfer.
Arrive early enough to find the named boat or representative. “Old Port” describes an area, not one airport-style gate. Screenshots of the meeting pin and the operator’s telephone number are more useful than a generic map search.
New Port: ferries and cruise logistics
The New Port is at Tourlos, north of town. Inter-island ferries use it, and cruise passengers may begin there or arrive by tender elsewhere depending on the ship’s arrangements. A tour advertised for cruise guests may include terminal pickup; that does not mean every booking includes it.
The shore excursion with cruise-terminal pickup starts at €75 and lasts four hours. It can remove the port-transfer problem for cruise visitors, but you still need to enter the correct ship and arrival details on the booking page.
Moving between the ports
The straight-line distance looks short, yet summer traffic and queues make a tight connection risky. SeaBus services, local buses and taxis may link Tourlos with town, but frequency and waiting time change with demand. Walking with luggage is not the same proposition as strolling through Chora: verify the route and conditions locally.
Do not plan a ferry arrival at the New Port followed immediately by a Delos departure from the Old Port. Leave a generous buffer and recheck both departure points the day before. If a supplier offers pickup, read whether it is included, optional or limited to particular areas.
Wording that changes the plan
“Pickup from cruise terminal” is specific. “Pickup from your hotel” may exclude pedestrian-only lanes where vehicles cannot reach the door. “Meeting point at the port” needs a pin. “Transfer available” often means an option that must be selected and paid for rather than a standard inclusion.
For an island overview, the Farm, Ano Mera and beaches tour is easier to compare by its pickup terms than by port name. For Delos, start with our Delos tour comparison and check whether you are buying only the boat, a guide, admission or a complete package.
Before you leave your accommodation
Open the latest voucher, not an old product screenshot. Confirm “Old Port” or “New Port/Tourlos”, save the exact map pin, check the local contact and allow for traffic. For most excursion departures from Chora, the Old Port is the likely answer; for inter-island ferries, the New Port is. The booking confirmation remains the authority because operators can change berths.
